Muay Thai Boxing - Background

I have 11 years experience in Thai Boxing, 3 years of which have been spent training in Bangkok, Thailand at a variety of camps that are well known and some that had never trained a westerner before.
I am a Senior Thai Boxing Instructor qualified in Bangkok under the World Muay Thai Council.

I have a 6-0 fight record under full thai rules in Thailand. In addition i have worked with and trained Ratchadamneon and Lumpini stadium fighters and worked the corner for them as well as having trained professional fighters from the USA, France, Spain, Korea, Holland, Switzerland, Italy and Japan while in Thailand.

How I teach

I teach in a very thai style, using thai style padwork which is similar to sparring. Its highly reactive and dynamic. Shots will be thrown at you for you to block at random and the pads are held for a counter. Lots of movement, good use of space. When you make mistakes ill point it out while we are still moving, correcting and repeating as we go along so you get it right then carrying on. I also incorporate a lot of western pro style boxing as opposed to amateur style boxing. I dont spar, this form of padwork replaces sparring and makes my brain cells last a few years longer!

I spend a good deal of time on technique as I truly believe in solid technique. This means a lot of repetition with fine adjustments being made. However i dont expect perfection in the technique straight away, i will correct and repeat enough to produce an improvement then we move on and come back to it next week where we will improve it yet again. There will be a fair amount of repetition as opposed to endlessly introducing new techniques.
I place a strong emphasis on footwork, developing a really natural feel for thai boxing.

Lessons are structured to your ability

The most common reason i hear why people dont train in Muay Thai is that they are scared of the training and secondly that they dont think they are physically capable due to not being fit, thirdly that they will be injured. Thai boxing training is hard, that is for sure, but for a beginner it is nothing like what a fighter has to do.

You will be treated as a beginner and eased into training, any fears you have can be discussed. Nothing should stand in your way, you will only be asked to do what you are capable of and no more. Well not at the start at least!

Lesson Rates

  • Lessons last 1 hour and cost £25
  • Time are 6am-11pm every day of the week, except Monday.
  • Your first lesson is free.
  • I teach in Stockton and Middlesbrough at students homes and from my own home in Eaglescliff, Stockton, just off the A19.

Teaching kids

I will teach kids providing parents are there for the whole lesson, lessons for kids are kept simple and revolve around basic techniques which are mainly punching and kicking the pads.
Striking pads can sometimes cause injuries for a variety of reasons, poor angle of contact, sloppy technique etc. If you are worried about your child getting any kind of injury at all then forget thai boxing for them. I do my best to make all training as safe as i can but this is a game of hard knocks and injuries do occur.
