S.A.F.E.D - Safe and Fuel Efficient Drivers

SAFED is a driver development course for drivers of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs). Consisting of assessment and training, it intends to improve safe and fuel efficient driving skills of LCV drivers and should be seen as a complementary part of a much broader programme of commercial vehicle fleet efficiency management.

Fleet Driver Training

With the change in the Law 06 April 2008 (Corporate Manslaughter) a Company’s responsibility to its work force, while driving on business, has never been greater.

The aim of Driver Training Northeast Limited is to help companies, stay on the right side of the Law and provide a cost effective way of improving Safety and Reducing Fleet Costs.

This is achieved by carrying out a Fleet Risk Assessment, to make sure you have all the required Risk Assessments in place. This is followed by an assessment of your drivers and training if required. Training can be bespoke to your Company needs and can be provided on site, where we can provide assessments or retraining.

Trailer Driving

If you passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 you are only entitled to drive a vehicle in category B, that is a motor vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes maximum authorised mass (MAM) and you can only tow a trailer up to 750 kgs MAM.

In general this means that you cannot legally tow trailers such as: horse boxes, caravans or large trailers unless you pass the car and trailer test (category B+E). This also applies if you have been disqualified from driving and had to retake your driving license since 1st January 1997.

Taxi Driver Training

In 1999 the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) introduced a non-statutory practical driving test for Hackney Carriage and Private Hire vehicles.

Some Licensing Authorities now insist that you must pass the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire practical assessment before you are issued with a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire drivers licence.

The reason for your Licensing Authority requiring you to take the assessment is to ensure that each taxi driver has the correct driving skills.
